Cancer Screening is "Giving Hope" in Guyana

Updated: Jun 29, 2021

Dr. Latoya Shonell Gooding, is a Medical Oncologist working at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation in Guyana. Besides her professional work, Dr. Gooding shares a strong passion for charity and serving the underprivileged, for which she started a not for profit organization that caters to the need of cancer patients living in Guyana.

The Giving Hope Foundation’s work is heavily invested in reducing the incidence of late stage diagnosis of cancer in Guyana by conducting monthly outreach screening programs for breast, cervical and prostate cancers.

In Guyana and around the Caribbean, we are very much burdened with cancers in both males and females, with breast cancer having a very high incidence and mortality rate. With great screening tools for breast cancer, women now have the power within their hands of saving their own lives, through early detection and appropriate treatment.
