TTANDi is a Non-Governmental Organisation created to educate and inform the public on the benefits of good nutrition to promote healthier lifestyles. It is also engaged in the professional development of its members.

Brief History 

The organisation was founded on the 28th May 1983. TTANDi was launched by twenty-two (22)  Nutritionists and Dietitians. These nutritional professionals helped to lay the foundation for the field of nutrition and dietetics in Trinidad and Tobago. Through their hard work a number of strategic alliances were formed with community groups, private institutions, food production companies and various Ministries such as: the Ministry of Health, Agriculture, Community Development, Education and Consumer Affairs to address matters concerning nutrition.

Who are we?

The association mainly comprises of nutrition professionals such Registered Dietitians and Public Health Nutritionists. Our members are registered with the Board of Nutritionists and Dietitians of the Council for Professions Related to Medicine of Trinidad and Tobago. Registration is a legal requirement to practice as a Nutritionist or a Dietitian.  Professionals such as us are the experts on nutrition and are best suited and trained to meet the nutritional needs of individuals in Trinidad and Tobago. Today, there are over one hundred (100) registered dietitians and public health nutritionists.

 

What we do? 

The association has been engaged in a number of health promoting activities over the years. Some of the activities we have engaged in include: health fairs, nutrition lectures, supermarket tours, healthy food displays, healthy cooking demonstrations, cookbook development and appearances on radio and television programmes. One of our most popular campaign is National Nutrition Awareness Week (NNAW) which is celebrated every year in the month of June. The purpose of the campaign is to highlight and address an ongoing nutritional concern in the country, with the aim to encourage persons to adopt healthier eating habits.

Ms. Cherice Bronte-Tinkew, is a registered dietitian for the past 8 years. I have a passion for helping persons live a healthy lifestyle through a balanced diet. In a diet consultation, it is not just advising you on what to eat but adapting it to your lifestyle and making realistic changes.

Our culture is so diverse in food, it’s exciting to create meal plans which meet a person’s nutritional needs but vibrant in colour and flavour. In my past years as a dietitian, I have worked with persons who have Diabetes Mellitus, heart disease, kidney disease, cancer and gastro-intestinal disorders.
